Companion planting, also known as intercropping, is a gardening technique that involves planting different plants together to deter pests, attract beneficial insects, and help increase soil nutrients. This workshop will introduce you to how to pair vegetables together that mutually benefit one another.

Your backyard can become a rich source of edible plants, as well as being an ecological habitat. This workshop will provide basic design process ideas and key elements, including edible native plant options.

It's easy to admire cut flowers at the farmer's market, but why not grow your own? Even home gardeners with limited space have lots of options. You can dedicate space exclusively for cutting flowers, or interplant them among your existing beds and borders. We will explore lots of beautiful flowering plants and how to propagate, harvest and save them from year to year.

If you've never had success with houseplants, or you simply want to increase your ability to grow them, then this class is for you. You will learn simply techniques, like amending your potting soil to suit the various types of indoor plants that you have, to tweaking your seasonal watering and fertilizing regime to ensure the right amounts at the right time. With the mastery of these few things and some other tips, in no time you will fin your greenery greener, your succulents more succulent, and your indoor flowers more floriferous.

Learn ways to update/redesign a current bed which supports pollinators and thrives in our changing climate. The design questions we will explore: What to Dig? Add? Move? Included will be plant lists and basic design principles. No previous design experience needed. Participants will walk away with a sketch of their selected garden bed.

In this workshop we will discuss the makeup of local soil and what we can do to protect and replenish its fertility with compost produced in our own back yard composting operations.
