Soil chemistry, physical structure and biological traits are what define the three pillars of soil health. In this talk we will touch upon the chemical and physical characteristics but delve further into the biological aspect of soils. We will identify the trophic levels in our soils, their functions and how to support and maintain the wonderful ecology of our soils. In addition, we will demonstrate various soil health indicators and discuss strategies available to home gardeners to protect their soils. Our speaker will be Ruben Parrilla, Soil Technical Coordinator for NOFA/Mass.
